    LABMUNDO researchers actively participate in the 12th Meeting of the Brazilian Political Science Association

    Danielle Costa da Silva launched her book, Human rights, Brazilian foreign policy and NGOs: democratizing the agenda, in addition to presenting her paper entitled The contribution of perspectives from the South to the universal conception of human rights in the international arena: conflict or complementarity? in the International Politics thematic area. Tiago Nery presented his work Brazilian foreign policy and domestic coalitions: from disagreements about international and regional insertion to the recent rupture (1994-2018) in the Foreign Policy thematic area. In the same thematic area, Juliana Luiz, Rubens de S. Duarte and Carlos R. S. Milani presented the paper Foreign policy of the Bolsonaro administration: the non-democratic dimension of a public policy. Carlos R. S. Milani also coordinated and participated in the round table entitled Comparing Foreign Policies in the Global South, with the participation of Feliciano de Sá Guimarães (USP), Cameron Thies (Arizona State University) and Maria Regina Soares de Lima (IESP-UERJ). The coordinator of LABMUNDO also discussed papers presented in the sixth session of the Foreign Policy thematic area.

    Labmundo researcher is presented as Dean of Amilcar Cabral University in Guinea-Bissau

    Last September 22, Labmundo researcher Timóteo Saba M’bunde was presented as Dean of Amílcar Cabral University

    During his presentation as responsible for the UAC, Saba M’bunde defends the “investment” in the system, for the elevation of the quality of teaching in Guinea-Bissau.

    About the University amílcar Cabral, the Dean speaks of his ambition:

    “We will work as we have done so far, so that the University amílcar Cabral is referenced at the national level. The teaching system in Guinea-Bissau has gone through difficulties and this is no doubt for anyone. The important thing is to create conditions from basic education for its quality,” he said.

    Leonildes Nazar Chaves, a former Visiting Scholar at CLAS, writes about Brazil and the intersection between the pandemic and policy, culture, economics, and politics. A political scientist and internationalist, she is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at the Institute of Social and Political Studies at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (IESP-UERJ).

    LABMUNDO researcher is now assistant-professor at UFRJ

    Danielle Costa da Silva, PhD researcher at LABMUNDO, was appointed adjunct professor at the Institute of International Relations and Defense (IRID), at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Danielle received her master’s and doctorate at IESP, having specialized in issues related to human rights in Brazilian foreign policy and international relations. The members of LABMUNDO wish Danielle much success in hers new trajectory!

    Launch of the 2nd edition of the “Development and Social Issue” dictionary

    The 2nd edition of the “Thematic Dictionary on Development and Social Issues: 110 contemporary issues” is available (only in Portuguese). Organized by Anete Ivo (Coordinator), Elsa Kraychete, Denise Vitale, Cristiana Mercuri, Angela Borges and Stella Senes, the first edition was revised and expanded, welcoming 114 authors from 40 universities (From Brazil and abroad) around 110 thematic entries.

    LABMUNDO held its first plenary session by videoconference

    On March 23, LABMUNDO held its first plenary session of the year, but with something new: it was the first meeting entirely by videoconference. Considering our concern to keep research activities running and aware of the need to follow the guidelines of the health authorities of social distance to combat the pandemic of Covid-19, researchers from Rio Antena and guests from GRISUL were connected by more than two hours to discuss the topics on the agenda. The next plenary session, on April 13, will also be virtual.

    German cooperation/GIZ and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation/AMEXCID published the report Revitalizing Global Partnerships for Sustainable Development: Challenges in the Implementation of SDG 17 through South-south and Trilateral Cooperation in Brazil, China, India, Mexico, South Africa and Turkey, authored by Carlos RS Milani.
